Who is Mary Kostakidis?

Mary was a member of the management team that started up Australian public broadcaster SBS Television in 1980 and from 1986, for two decades presented its prime time flagship World News.

A tireless advocate for human rights, her tools for promoting human rights are integrity, facts and truth in reporting.

Mary is a former Chair of the USYD’s Sydney Peace Foundation that awarded Julian Assange a Medal in 2012 for his unique and significant contribution to journalism.

She was appointed by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to the  National Human Rights Consultation Committee that assessed the level of protection of human rights and  recommended Australia adopt a Human Rights Act.

Mary continues  to work as an independent journalist, in recent years contributing to a public policy website. 

She has written about, and reported on, a number of cases including that of Australian Guantanamo Bay detainee David Hicks, and Dan Duggan, an Australian and former US citizen sought for extradition by the US.

Mary joined X (formerly Twitter) in 2011, largely to share information about WikiLeaks and its Australian publisher Julian Assange.

She provided simultaneous reporting and commentary of his four week Extradition hearing and subsequent hearings.

In recent years she has published on topics including national security, AUKUS, Australia’s relationship with China and other areas of geopolitics. Her focus since 7 October 2023 has been the Middle East, the push to annex Gaza and the West Bank, the world’s first livestreamed genocide and the threat of a wider war.

As a society, it seems much of the western hemisphere as been gaslit to the extent, many seem to be at ease with an ongoing livestreamed genocide.

We believe it is precisly because of Mary’s  refusal to accept the idea that anyone can justify the killing, maiming and starving of children and babies that she is being targeted.

The attemps to silence Mary are because she shares the work of Genocide experts. Exposes the lies of the oppressive perpetrators, promotes peace and is a strong advocate for human rights.

While the use of lawfare against Mary is something of a litmus test in Australia, she is not alone. There has been a wave of legal attacks, sackings, investigations and police raids targeting journalists, academics, artists and others in western democracies since Israel commenced its disproportionate response to the 7 October 2023 Hamas attack. 

In an effort to staunch the unprecedented level of global support for the Palestinian people’s human rights and worldwide condemnation of Israel’s Zionist policies, supporters of the ideology are pursuing strategies to reverse the tide, from lobbying for changes to legislation, using lawfare and orchestrating coordinated complaints, as evidenced in the recent Lattouf case

The biggest threat to the Zionist narrative has come from social media. It is there we see extensive evidence of what is being done, and hear perspectives absent in the mainstream media.

Social media is the  censorship battleground because it is where the Israel lobby know they have lost the younger generation, and it is on social media that the world can see who is doing what.

The Isreali attacks rely on false claims of antisemitism, of support for terrorism, and of promoting hate speech. Those targeted are vilified because they dare to speak the truth in the face of a decades-long media narrative that was and still is largely captured by the Israeli lobby.
